Foraminiferaand Palaeoenvironment of Elevated Late Pleistocene Sands, White Rock Point! Southeastern Tasmania
نویسنده
چکیده
A foraminiferal fauna similar to that in in southeastern Tasmania is documented from raised shallow-water sediment of 130-119 Ka age (Late Pleistocene; Marine Isotope 5e) at about 24m above modern sea level on White Rock Point. Foraminifera and sediment characteristics indicate that occurred in very shallow, highly oxygenated, high-energy marine conditions in an area of open circulation. There is very little infauna. The locality is the only known site for such a fauna from before human habitation of the Derwent Estuary and allows comparison with modern £·mnas.

Pleistocene basaltic lava flows, consisting of trachybasalt and basaltic trachyandesite, cover an area north-northwest of Shahre-Babak in southeastern Iran. The whole rock chemistry indicates that the lavas are dominantly alkaline and mildly calc-alkaline. Variation diagrams of SiO2 with major and trace elements are consistent with fractional crystallization processes involving olivine, pyroxen...

Qs Sand Wind-blown sand blankets a number of areas in the western part of the quadrangle. These well-sorted, mediumto fine-grained quartzose sands are commonly deposited on the east to northeast sides of hills but may extend across some flat areas. The sands are uncemented and loose but most are well stabilized by vegetation, locally including trees. The sands are usually white to tan but local...
